Myocardial fibrosis and ventricular strain indices in post-fontan single ventricle patients: cardiac MR assessment and prognostic significance
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Staged palliation culminating with the Fontan procedure has dramatically increased survival in children with single ventricle anatomy. However, long-term morbidity and mortality continue to be significant. This has been linked to ventricular myocardial fibrosis and scarring and subsequent altered contractile mechanics with abnormal regional wall motion and strain, but has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we sought to more precisely characterize these structural changes via magnetic resonance imaging and quantitatively assess ventricular mechanics through the measurement and calculation of MRI-derived displacement fields and regional wall strain to discern any association between fibrosis and function in the post-Fontan population.

Prognostic value of right ventricular myocardial performance index in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery
Abstract Background: Right ventricular myocardial performance index (RVMPI) is a Doppler–derived parameter of non-geometrical ventricular function that measures both systolic and diastolic functions of the right ventricle. The aim of this study is to compare prognostic value of RVMPI with global RV function in patients undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG). Methods: In a longitudinal ...
متن کاملThe prognostic value of stress/rest gated myocardial perfusion SPECT in patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease
Introduction:Gated myocardial perfusion SPECT has diagnostic and prognostic values in coronary artery disease (CAD). We tried to determine prognostic values of the left ventricular perfusion & functional indices as well as transient left ventricular dilation (TID) derived from gated myocardial perfusion SPECT. Methods: 1820patients who underwent gated myo...
متن کاملPrediction of Changes in Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction after Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting Surgery by Myocardial Perfusion Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography
Introduction: Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is considered to be the single most important prognostic factor in patients with previous myocardial infarction. LVEF is not improved in all patients after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). This study aimed to assess the possibility of prediction of LVEF changes after CABG using myocardial perfusion gated signle photon emission compu...
متن کاملDiffuse myocardial fibrosis in patients after Fontan operation: a T1 relaxometry magnetic resonance pilot study
Background Patients with single ventricle (SV) circulations are at risk for heart failure, frequently burdened by both systolic and diastolic cardiac dysfunction. The mechanisms of adverse remodeling of functionally univentricular hearts are incompletely understood. Diffuse myocardial fibrosis is one of the candidate morphological substrates, for which cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) derived n...

Background: The Fontan operation is the definitive operation for palliation of complex congenital heart disease with single –ventricle physiology. The use of the extra cardiac conduit has recently been gaining popularity. The purpose of this study was to compare the outcomes of extra cardiac conduit Fontan procedure (off-pump technique) and that of traditional technique (lateral tunnel techniqu...
